What is LawNet? (also known as Legal Workbench)

LawNet/Legal Workbench is a subscription website (click here to subscribe) that caters to the research and legal information needs of the global legal community of Singapore. Since its inception in 1988, www.lawnet.com.sg has grown in leaps and bounds, adding information, applications and databases to suit the evolving needs of practitioners and academics.

LawNet/Legal Workbench is made up of different modules. Each module has different pricing schemes and may be subscribed to separately. Ad hoc/hourly usage of LawNet/Legal Workbench and it's modules is available here or via the account portlet on the homepage. LawNet/Legal Workbench provides the following Services:

  • Legal Research - The Legal Workbench
    • This module holds a comprehensive and up-to-date repository of on-line legal research information such as cases (judgments of the Singapore courts , Malaysian as well as English courts), reference materials, legal literature such as journals and newsletters from legal institutions and firms, and statutory law. Click here for more information as to what cases and research material are available.

  • Information comes to you
    • Today, LawNet/Legal Workbench has been built with the focus of minimizing the work involved in searching for information. When a user searches for certain kinds of information, we have worked hard to ensure that other information which a user may also find useful, is also easily retrievable.

  • Seamless experience
    • Previously, users had to search for information in different databases to make sure their research was comprehensive. This meant having to climb in and out of different databases and performing the same search over and over.
    • Now users can perform one search and be able to access all the related databases in a single action. We call this a seamless experience.
